The promenade on the spring water — Mishima city walking

The promenade on the spring water — Mishima city walking

Mishima City is well-known among international tourists as the gateway to sightseeing around Mt. Fuji, thanks to its convenient connection via Shinkansen, especially for those with a Japan Rail Pass. As accommodations in the area have become increasingly difficult to book, many travelers now choose to stay overnight in Mishima. With this in mind, I would like to introduce my favorite hidden jogging route—the Genbe River Seseragi (Murmuring) Promenade.

The promenade begins at the headwater of Genbe River, nestled just behind the city park, Rakujyuen. It quietly winds through a peaceful residential area, where locals pass by on their way to work or the train station. There’s nothing particularly remarkable—except for the crystal-clear spring water.<br />

The promenade is made up of beams and stepping stones set in the middle of the river. With a water depth of less than 30 cm, there’s no danger—just a refreshing experience, surrounded by the soothing sound of murmuring water. 01

The river and promenade meander through Mishima's city center, home to numerous restaurants and bars. Flowing through the rhythm of daily life, the river provides a place of relaxation for locals—even after enjoying a few beers nearby. 01

The promenade stretches over 1 km from its headwater, with the renowned Mishima Shrine nestled nearby at its midpoint. The shrine grounds are adorned with seasonal flowers, creating a vibrant setting where locals gather in the morning for exercise or yoga—an atmosphere that invites you to feel like a part of the community. 01
